Sen. Karen Carter-Peterson speaks to Xavier Prep's AP-American Government Class

On February 22, 2010, Senator Karen Carter-Peterson spoke to the students in Ms. Baham’s AP-American Government class. She discussed the importance of her job and how her passion for serving the people of New Orleans sparked at the early age of eighteen.  Senator Peterson gave essential information about her life experiences and career. She commented on her parent’s influence on her path to success.  Sen. Peterson shared some profound words with the group.

She said, “the only way to stay grounded in the harsh world of politics was to have good morals and keep God first”.  She encouraged the class to take part in the politics of our community and state. In addition, she expressed the need for more young African American women to get involve with government. Senator Peterson was a very informative, encouraging and a spirited leader. As young ladies we greatly appreciated the words of encouragement and the powerful message and words of wisdom she shared with us. Kateri McBride, Brittany Stepter and Brittany Nicholas
