The Paul Roberson Acting Competition took place Saturday, March 6, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. at the New Orleans Public Library. Jaia Rovaris represented Xavier Prep School by performing a piece by Dorothy Dandridge. Jaia competed and earn top honor for her performance. Congratulations Jaia!

XUP Marching Band to performed at HIV/Aids event

On Saturday, March 6, 2010, the XUP Marching Band performed magnificently for the Women & Girls HIV/AIDS Awareness seminar at the African-American Museum. The XUP Band kick-off the event with songs such as, "Beautiful Girl", "Before I Let Go" and the SAINT's crunk song. The band played a few second line tunes as they paraded around the neighborhood. Mr. Wilson said, "The event allowed the band members the opportunity to do something positive". Invited guest received HIV/AIDS awareness and prevention information. Sr. Eileen also participated in the experience. She remarked on how impressed she was with the band's outstanding performance. The XUP Band is to be commended for participating in such a noble cause.

Sen. Karen Carter-Peterson speaks to Xavier Prep's AP-American Government Class


On February 22, 2010, Senator Karen Carter-Peterson spoke to the students in Ms. Baham’s AP-American Government class. She discussed the importance of her job and how her passion for serving the people of New Orleans sparked at the early age of eighteen.  Senator Peterson gave essential information about her life experiences and career. She commented on her parent’s influence on her path to success.  Sen. Peterson shared some profound words with the group.

She said, “the only way to stay grounded in the harsh world of politics was to have good morals and keep God first”.  She encouraged the class to take part in the politics of our community and state. In addition, she expressed the need for more young African American women to get involve with government. Senator Peterson was a very informative, encouraging and a spirited leader. As young ladies we greatly appreciated the words of encouragement and the powerful message and words of wisdom she shared with us. Kateri McBride, Brittany Stepter and Brittany Nicholas

Yellow Jackets make the Playoffs

bb12The XUP Basketball Team made the playoffs. The team finish 3rd in District 10-3A with a record of 5 and 3.  The make up of the team consisted of 2 -Sophmores, 1- Freshmen, 6- 8th Graders, and 1- 7th Grader.  Dannielle Santiago, the only senior player had health issues and could not finish the season. Her experience on the basketball court was deeply missed, but the team responded magnificently as they closed out the regular season strong. Congratulations ladies!!!  .......Well Done!!!!
